The $579 Red Magic 5G is the first phone having 144Hz display

You can’t claim to be the best phone in 2020 without having a high rate display. A new benchmark is set now.
Red Magic, a subsidiary of ZTE, is offering its latest gaming phone for global pre-order, making Red Magic 5G the first phone with a 144 Hz screen. This is the standard rate for PC gaming monitors.
The screen is a 1080p OLED panel with 6.65-inch display.

Red Magic 5G feels much bigger than this proposal. The phone has no notch or hole-punch for the selfie camera, which is best for gaming.
This phone’s specs are as high as you’d hoped for from a gaming phone: 5G supported (obviously), 256GB of storage and up to 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM, a Snapdragon 865, Android 10, and a 4500mAh battery that can be fast-charged at 55W but no wireless charging.

64-megapixel Sony IMX686 sensor

Red Magic 5G has a triple-lens camera with 64-megapixel Sony IMX686 sensor. You also get a stereo speakers and a headphone jack.
Compared to other phones perhaps the gaming functionality of Red Magic 5G is more explicit. There is a full-on turbo fan inside the phone that pushes out a fair bit of air. Sometimes it gets pretty loud, but you can turn it off if you don’t need it.

At the top of the phone, there are also capacitive shoulder buttons (in landscape) that you can assign to actions with equivalent touch screen positions. Red Magic is selling a buttons attachment and joystick. Oh, and I should mention about the glowing LED logos on the back. There is a button on the side to switch the phone into a dedicated gaming phone where you can manage all of this stuff.

The screen of 144Hz does indeed look very smooth when you are using the phone normally, and to show off there is a small indicator of 144Hz in notification bar. As for gaming, I don’t think so that there are even much compared to 120Hz or even 90Hz displays. Meanwhile, PUBG runs at around 90fps.
The Red Magic 5G is available to order today for a model with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage with price at $579.

Another model with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage is also available with price at $649.
Those are official US prices. Red Magic is releasing the phone in the UK, Mainland Europe, North America, Australia, Japan, and beyond. After preorders, the phone will be available to buy on 21st April.
